Match recap
Trinbago Knight Riders batted first and started exactly as a home side wants to. Sunil Narine made 53 from 24 balls and Colin Munro made 52 from 42, putting on 101 for the first wicket. At 120 for 1, the Knight Riders looked set for well over 200.
The match turned in one over. Vitel Lawes dismissed Munro, Kieron Pollard and Matthew Tromp without conceding a run, a three-wicket maiden that broke the innings open. Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 60 from 37 balls still dragged Trinbago to 180 for 6, but the total was smaller than it had looked an over earlier.
Jamaica’s chase was interrupted by rain twice. They reached 54 for 1 in the powerplay, lost wickets at the wrong moments, and were still in the game when the second rain break came with the score on 127 for 3 after 14.4 overs. On the DLS calculation they were seven runs ahead of the adjusted target, and with no further play possible, that was enough.
Keacy Carty’s 42 from 33 balls and Kirk McKenzie’s 30 from 25 kept Jamaica ahead of the rate, and Lawes finished as player of the match for 3 for 29. It is a useful reminder that in a rain-affected T20, staying ahead of the par score matters as much as the final total.
